So tragic...and scary

  • Jul. 7th, 2009 at 4:04 PM

Today I got to work a bit early at 6:30 AM.  It was odd why there were so many cop cars on the intersection of Washington St. and Texas St. so early.  As I drive a bit closer to the parking lot at work, I see that there is a older blue sedan head first into one of the palm trees that line the street.  No one was in the car, and the police were walking around the car.  As I parked, I took a quick look, and the man that was inside the car was laying on the ground next to his car, and he was barely moving, all he did was lift his arm just slightly.  Right as I was going into the office, the fire and paramedics arrived.  I didn't stay around to look.  At 6:45, Steve gets into the office and says to me "I think he died.  The body was covered and the ambulance isnt going anywhere".  WOW.  My day was poisoned.  I pretty much witnessed this man's last moments.  I still get chills when I think about it, and actually I'm on the verge of tears.  I don't even know this guy, but he died only 20 feet from me.

There were no skid marks leading up to the tree, so it's hard to say what happened.  Did he fall asleep?  Was he on drugs?  Both?  Did he have a stroke/heart attack?  So many questions remain, and so far no news online has reported it.  I hope the paper has some more insight on the accident tomorrow.

Just remember that your life could be gone just like that.  It's really scary.

My prayers go out to him and his family.

Weird

  • Apr. 23rd, 2009 at 8:23 PM

Some weirdo has been doorbell ditching me for the last couple hours, it's kind of annoying, I would call the police but I have no evidence about who the person is since I never went to look.

I finally got my exam card in the mail, it was about time.  I also got jury duty for the day after.  FUN

I've started a new series:  Shower Soap Opera.  Today's story was kind of disturbing and drama-filled fun.  Let me explain (not the soap, but the whole purpose of such a silly thing, and what it really means)

So, I get bored in the shower and often talk to myself.  Why not make it a fun and interesting time while washing up.  The dealie-o is that I concoct an interesting and dramatic story that involves me and the "people o' the tymes"  It also keeps my creative juices flowing.  Sometimes other juices may flow. I didn't say that.  Ok, I did.

Recap of tonights episode:  Pregnancy, marriage, blue eyed children (!)  Oh trust me, this is raunchy shizzle, you dizzle?

Anyways, I guarantee it'll never happen in the real life yo.

On a more tmi note, I have ezcema on my EYELID.  it itches, I whine.

Ghetto-unfabulous

Hello everyone.

Little did I know working for the Agriculture Department would involve me going to the most dangerous neighborhood in Vallejo...aka "The Crest" (Around Marine World)

I did some research on it AFTER the fact...turns out that's where Mac Dre is from...great

I spent 4 hours there servicing the Light Brown Apple Moth traps.  At one of the traps, the trap was in a tree in a yard of a house that was for sale, and on the sidewalk was an empty "40" and an empty flask of liquor.

Hoodlums were walking...okay shall I say "straunting" all over the neighborhood, and people were staring at me...they're prob like

"what the sheezy this white gurrrl doin' down in the crest n****?"

And people turned in front of me several times...laughin' and shit....lol...I wasn't laughin'

Oh yea, and all the "divas" were like dancin' in the street...I was like "helllooooooooooooooooo?  PLEASE stay on the freakin' sidewalk"

Yeah...and I have to go back in 2 weeks!!!

The only "light at the end of the tunnel" is that I believe I found 2 LBAM's on the traps there.  Although, that might be more than I bargained for, because if an LBAM is found in a certain area we scale up the traps, about 10 per square mile...meaning more traps at derilict houses and more visits to "the crest"...fun fun

It was seriously like going to a completely different world.  I mean I'm sure it's not as bad as some parts of Richmond and Oakland...but I never really thought that area as being so bad.  But it is.

*Crosses off Vallejo from potential places to live*

fucking tired of flakes

  • Jan. 16th, 2009 at 10:56 PM

I am so sick of inviting people to do stuff and they always have some lameass excuse.

Anyways, I walked turf/sod today to inspect for weeds...I got sunburned, probably walked about 10 miles in the grass, we brought a soccer ball...it was pretty fun.  I am kind of in pain, but it was so much better than being sexually harrassed at my old job...only harrassment was by the sun.

I love my new job SO much.  I am so lucky to have found it.

LOLZ, I just realized how good of a pun my title is!  yesss

First day on the job

  • Dec. 15th, 2008 at 7:42 PM

Today was my first day working as an Ag biologist in Solano county.  I started the day off at 8 am, and I beat my supervisor to work so that was a good thing.  I finished my HR paperwork and stuff like that after about an hour and then I talked to Linda (main supervisor) about basic information like time off, vacation, sick leave, the awesome "floating" holidays and such.  I went to put my parking permit on my car and parked in the all day parking across the street.  Then they had me work with Mark, another ag biologist, on the pesticide use permits for restricted materials.  Apparently there are tons of them to renew for the 2009 season.  I was able to complete three of them with Mark in about 2 hours.  There's this special AG GIS program that you use, it's pretty cool but it's slow.

After working on that for a few hours I had lunch and walked around a bit downtown.  It was really cold.  I don't think it got warmer than 45 all day.  After lunch, Mark took me out on a field assignment, inspecting some shipment of ornamental plants at Lowe's in Vacaville for Glassy Winged Sharpshooter.  It was really cool talking to him about stuff, he's a really nice guy and wants me to work on the Pest Exclusion team.  We'll see where they put me.

At 2:30 Mark had to leave so I went back and talked to Linda and she helped me set up my Ag Track account which I have to log all my work everyday and print out a form to update to send to the state every month.  Paper trail galore.  I also met this guy named Steve and he was really nice and told me he has a lot of study materials for the licensing exams.

After that, I went to work on some more permits with Oliver, another ag biologist.  I was supposed to work until 4:30 but I ended up working until 5.  It's ok, because I still beat Mike home by 30 minutes.  haha reverse commute ftw.

That is the short story of my day.  It was tiring but really awesome.  Finally, something I like to do.

SADDENING

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 3:18 PM

Mmmkay, I guess I have to hold the guilt of "lying" to everyone now.  I think for now on I'll just keep my freaking mouth shut at all times.

Things are saddening

sigh

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 2:02 PM

I guess I'm annoying or something. Typical.

OMGWTFBBQ...I scheduled my interview for Solano County on December 4th!  They had an opening next week but I'm going to be in Vegas for the T-week

It's a good thing too...because supposedly there's a written exam too! shit....lol  I guess I should get the study materials back out.  Or maybe the exam is "have you passed the pipe in the last 24 months?"  In that case I'm fine...I think

Anyways, happy things are happening.  Happening = happy, saddening = sad?  So maybe, the next time something's up and someone looks sad... I'll be like "whats saddening?"

Never mind

silly things

Plz be my friend and hire meeeeee

Oct. 21st, 2008

  • 9:57 PM

Today I had my State of California exams for the Pesticide Regulation and Pest Exclusion/Plant Regulation licenses.

It went a lot better than I thought it would. Quite a lax setting, which was good. I spent about 30 minutes beforehand sitting outside the civic center on the 4th floor outside in the little patio/garden area. It was too hot in the civic center (cranking the heater in the mornings always got to me). I listened to my ipod, closed my eyes, and enjoyed the cool breeze on my face and hands.

It was just me and this guy named Scott taking the tests. The proctor didn't even stay in the room at all during the tests.

Total, the tests took me 3 hours and 25 minutes. I had a total of 4 hours to work on them. Second test was more a "test" of my prior knowledge, while the first test was seriously the most I have EVER studied for anything in my life. I hope I pass, but what would be even cooler is if I passed with higher than 90%. Eh doesn't matter, as long as I pass. It would be sad to have to take it again...

I seriously feel so good right now. I talked to my parents for over an hour and I'm not afraid of them anymore. I think they are really glad that I am finally happy with my life's choices. I was NOT happy for the last few years and just settled like dust on your computer screen.

I got another package in the mail today from Cyan Worlds, turns out they sent me TWO copies of Manhole Masterpiece Edition, and now they sent me a Myst End Of Ages soundtrack as well. Miscommunication gone wrong, but hey for $10 I'm not complaining. The funniest part was the note I got with the package.

It said something about their "shipper" not being available and sorry for the wait for the game. (I actually got the game like two weeks ago but eh I'm sure they don't want it and are just wanting to get rid of it...for anyone that doesn't really know much about the game it's talked about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Manhole

The BEST part about the note was "Hope you enjoy the Manhole". Yeah, that was so wrong it was right.

I still have to return to my exwork for the exit interview on Thursday. But, I am confident and something like that will NEVER happen to me again. Communication is key. I keep telling people that but sometimes I don't follow through with myself.

This will change. I need to re-learn how to take care of myself first and foremost. woot.

ahh

  • Oct. 20th, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Tomorrow is my licensing exam. Crap...I swear I've been studying non stop since August and I STILL don't feel like I know enough....

Typical Berkeley student reaction I'm sure.

Last week was a challenge, this week is a challenge of a different sort. It's learning how to do what *I* say, not what *you* say.

Imagine that.

I am gonna write in this thing every day now. I need to begin to let words out onto paper (keyboard).

This will be a great adventure. :)
